Two nights ago I had a vivid dream. In my dream I was trying out for my high school football team. However, I was not high school age rather I was my present age of 47.
In my dream I was excited about trying out for the team. I saw no limits to realizing my dream. I have often regretted not playing football in high school.
In short it was my [tag]fear of failure[/tag] that kept me from trying out for the team.
When I awoke I shared the story with my family. I explained about how I was excited about the chance to make the team but reality hit when I woke up.
I realized that I would not be eligible to even go to high school because I have since graduated from college.
To my amusement and amazement today I read an associated press story on the internet about a 59 year old man named [tag]Mike Flint[/tag] who returned to his college (Sul Ross State University) to complete his senior year and he made it onto his college football team as a defensive lineman.
This appears to be a true success story. The 59 year old man dreamed about going back to play football for his college team and he has made the team. According to ESPN News he may begin playing as early as September 1, 2007.
He is already a success in my mind because he is doing what he wants to do when he wants to do it.
Time will tell if and when he is any good as a player but at 59 it is amazing to even be considered for a college football team.
This story should be inspiring to all of us who thought that we were too old to follow our dreams.
