Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right. ~Oprah Winfrey
Have you ever made a New Years resolution but failed to keep it?
Don’t feel bad. You are not alone.
It has been reported that at least 80% of New Years resolutions
go unfulfilled.
Why do so many people fail to achieve their New Years Resolutions?
I think that the biggest problem lies in the fact that people have not determined specificly what they want to achieve in life.
To get what you want in life you have to know where you are going or what you want.
If you have failed to achieve your resolutions or goals in the past you may benefit from the following tips:
It is essential to write down your goals.
Success expert Brian Tracy recommends that you re-write your main goals in life on a daily basis.
This continual rewriting of your goals will help to embed your goals more deeply in your subconscious mind increasing the odds that you will manifest your goal.
Choose a goal that is exciting yet achievable. It Helps to have
desire and excitement to help you stay focused on your goal.
Be as specific as possible when setting your goal. Don’t just say I want to lose weight. Decide what weight you want to be and have a deadline for achieving your goal.
State your goal in the present tense as a positive affirmation. For example I want to lose weight down to 210 pounds by January 2009. I will state my goal as “my weight is 210 pounds by January 2009.
Visualize yourself doing what you want to accomplish. For example if you want lose weight visualize yourself and imagine feeling like you would if you were at your desired weight.
Make a vision board with a simple posterboard and cut out pictures from magazines or print images from the internet depicting your accomplished goal. Display your vision board in a place where you will see it often like on your refrigerator or behind your computer screen.
Matt Morris of Success University is such a strong believer in the importance of vision boards that he says that if you do not create a vision board for yourself then you “are not serious about success.”
Each day take one action step towards your goal. These daily steps will get you closer and closer to your goal.

Thanks for all your content. I have a question. I have a daughter that is in her first year of high school. What would you recommend for her to read (or watch) that would help her with having a positive attitude and setting goals. It would have to be something that would make a connection to a teenager. I’ll be looking here for your response. Thank You.

Good question. I’m interested in hearing this. There are so many junk books aimed at teens I’d like to know something that experts recommend.

Dalton that is a great question. I too have a daughter entering highschool and I am also on the lookout for goal setting or personal development materials for her.
There do not seem to be many good books or videos regarding goals geared for teens. Maybe we need to look at writing one. There is definitely a need.
The best goal setting information for adults that I have found so far is Brian Tracy’s audio program called The Psychology of Achievement. I highly recommend it but it is not specificly aimed at teens.
Check out Sean Covey’s - 7 Habbits of Highly Effective Teens. It covers goals and visualization and other areas that will help your daughter to succeed in school and life.
If any readers know of any other good resources for teens please let us know.
Thanks again for your great question.
