I will explain later what “Hootless” means but first may I ask you a favor?
Please think back to a time when you accomplished a major goal that you had set for yourself.
The goal itself does not matter as much as the fact that it was important to you at the time.
Maybe you wanted to graduate from school or buy a new car or home.
Or perhaps you wanted to find your soul mate.
My question to you is this: did you achieve your goal by struggling or with a lot of drama or did you attain your goal when you let go or quit struggling to achieve it?
While you are pondering that question. Please let me share a personal story with you.
Twenty years ago I was trying to break into the field of counseling.
In order to become a counselor it was required that I serve a practicum with an approved practicum provider.
Anyway, I had a list of about 12 clinics on my state approved practicum provider list.
I called each name on the list and got “no” after “no” when I asked if I could do my practicum hours at their clinic.
I heard all kinds of excuses as to why I could not volunteer my time free to complete a practicum at the clinics on my list.
There was only one clinic left on my list that had not given me a flat out NO.
I said a prayer to myself that went something like this: “Dear God if you want me to be a counselor please let me know, there is one name left on my list to call, if this does not pan out, then I am going to explore other careers, either way it is okay but please let me know,”
I had reached a state that Lester Levenson and Hale Dwoskin of The Sedona Method refer to as being “hootless”.

I reached a point where I did not give a “hoot” one way or another if I achieved my goal.
I had become “hootless.”
I wanted to be a counselor but I was ready to accept it if it did not pan out.
Contrary to what Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich, Oprah and all the other success guru’s say, Levenson and Dwoskin believe that it is not strong desire, hard work, struggle or drama that help you to manifest your goals.
Levinson and Dwoskin propose that your goals are manifested faster when you let go, release, get clear, or reach an inner state of hootlessness (when you don’t care one way or another about the result).
Anyway back to my story:
I dialed the number and the director of the clinic was in, he said that I was extremely lucky to have called when I did because the doctor who owns the clinic was in his office (this was a rare event) and ready to interview me for a practicum position right now!!!
To make a long story short:
Everything fell into place from that point on.
It was as if the walls crumbled and a red carpet was rolled out for me.
My destiny took a turn for the better in just a few seconds just by becoming hootless!
I have been working now as a counselor for twenty years!
I had not thought of this story until I learned about being “Hootless” from The Sedona Method Course.

yeah, i think people try to hard sometimes and then it is only when they fail and give up that they achieve their goals. people definitely need to relax and just be. it is good to have goals, but the journey can be more important in terms of spiritual, intellectual and emotional growth. anyone else have some ideas.
